Depression

Depression, Is feeling blue normal or do I have depression?

Depression symptoms, have you been experiencing them?Is feeling blue normal or do I have depression?

If you feel like your life is sliding down a steep slope with nothing to hang on to, you may be suffering from depression. You may feel lingering sadness, or have lost interest in activities you used to enjoy.

If untreated, depression can rob your life of joy and also affect those you love.

What are some of the depression symptoms?

  • Withdrawn and reclusive: Feeling abnormally introverted and withdrawing from others. You gravitate towards isolation.
  • Loss of pleasure: You've lost interest in doing things you previously enjoyed. Activities that once gave you pleasure - sex, sport, work, etc. - no longer appeal to you.
  • Food: Your eating may have become abnormal. Consistently eating too much or too little can be depression.
  • Addictions: An unhealthy dependence on drugs, alcohol, and/or other self destructive behaviour.
  • Obsessions: Your thinking has become obsessive, focused on only one, or a few, issues. You may find your thoughts are going round in circles, like a broken record.

These are some of the signs. See a full list of depression symptoms.

Help for Depression at Guy's Domain
  • Understanding: Knowing the issues contributing to your depression is the first step to resolving it
  • Support: Depression isn't something to be ashamed about. Many normal, successful guys experience depression at some point in their lives
